On September 30, 2018, in partnership with nine area churches & ministries, PACT hosted our first What’s Porn Got to Do With It Community Panel Event at Lakeway Church in Lakeway, Texas. Over 250 people registered for this event where participants heard from subject matter experts on the latest brain research, the connection between pornography and the child sex trafficking industry and other related issues.
The first hour was a panel discussion featuring Dr. Britt Stone, Jimmy Meyers, PhD, LPC-S and Pastor James Mosley. The panel discussion was followed by breakout sessions covering such topics as Parenting through Pornography, Internet Safety, Finding Healing, Self Defense and sessions specifically for men, women and teens.
PACT is very grateful to the panel of subject matter experts who discussed the theology of the mind, a pastoral approach to pornography, the effects of pornography on the family, and how pornography affects the brain. A testimony of a 14-year-old girl was very illuminating from her perspective. The breakout sessions were extremely informative and well-attended.
Partnering churches/ministries included: ACTS Church, Austin Christian Fellowship Lakeway, Casa de Oracion Para Todos Los Pueblos, The Church at Lake Travis, Emmaus Catholic Church, The Lakeway Church, Luke 4:18 Ministries, Partners in Hope and River in the Hills Church.
We are very pleased by both the partnering together of area churches and the turn-out by the community. Pornography is not an easy topic to discuss, but there is hope. Together we can and must shine a light on the truth about pornography its relationship to the child sex trafficking industry. Only then can individuals and families find the freedom that is available to them.
